Workplace Safety Reaps Rewards

Odd Fellows’ and Rebekah’s Home of Maine in Auburn is the recipient of a dividend award recognizing its commitment to a safe working environment.    By focusing on workplace safety, Odd Fellows’ Home, a member of the Maine Health Care Association Workers’ Compensation Fund since 1992, has earned over $174,000 to date in dividend returns.

The Maine Health Care Association Workers’ Compensation Fund operates a group self-insurance trust providing workers’ compensation insurance for long-term care providers throughout Maine.  Good safety practices year after year have enabled the Trust to return dividends totaling over 8.3 million dollars.

More than 50 of Maine’s long-term care providers qualified for dividends for the 2012 policy year ranging from $800 to $97,000, a 13% return on workers’ compensation insurance costs for most.  The group’s collective success demonstrates that reducing workers’ compensation expense is achievable through excellence in workplace safety leading to fewer on the job injuries for employees.
